Invited by Laure Adler to her television program in May 1996, artist Christian Boltanski spoke of his artworks as a “stimulus”, explaining that the work is ultimately created by the person who looks at it. Following this logic, the fourteen images in “Les Images Stimuli”, each accompanied by a caption (Le cowboy, Le bol de chocolat, Les animaux de la ferme, Le Gateau, La Sucette, etc.) are intended to activate in each reader their own childhood memories.
Conceived as a minimal mnemonic device, the book was published on the occasion of Boltanski’s exhibition at the Foksal PSP Gallery in Warsaw in 1978.
