Formed in the aftermath of the 1968 counterculture protests in Mexico, known locally as La Onda, and the subsequent state repression, Grupo Suma appropriated the visual language of mass media to confront political violence, censorship, poverty, and social inequality. In doing so, the collective positioned artistic production as a form of collective resistance and social activation. This unique copy was formerly owned by the Mexican painter René Freire.
